How to cope with body changes ?

My body, my rules.

Life is a bitch to our bodies : we get weight, we get sick, we get children and of course, we get old (feel free to extend the list).

In addition to these physiological stages, we go through life events that can affect our bodies and the image we have of ourselves (a divorce or a depression, for example).

Out there, the pressure to stay slim, beautiful, young forever, to exercise and “take care of ourselves” is constant and loud. While it may be motivating for some, it only adds pressure and guilt to (many) others (men and women, young and adult).

Paradoxically, the impact of a poor self-image on our social, professional and romantic lives is still sort of a taboo, seeming trivial, or perhaps too intimate. It’s a shame, since working on the way we dress - whatever your body looks like - shows real therapeutic and soothing virtues (it’s also fun).

So let’s not pretend we don’t care and instead : let’s deal with it in our own terms ✊

  • You may feel like just talking about it at this stage, without engaging in any further action. I’m good with that. Opening up about the current image you have of yourself to a stylist who will listen is a very good idea -and maybe that’s all you need!
